I grew up on Long Island, New York, the second of six children. After leaving a Catholic school in Brooklyn, NY in the fifth grade, I entered the public school system in Seaford, LI. It was then that I began writing short stories and poems and kept my first of numerous diaries and journals.
I graduated from Seaford High School, on the south shore of Long Island, near our beloved Jones Beach. I spent many lazy summer days there with friends – Oh those were the days! Three years after graduating, I married my first husband and shortly after we moved to Maryland – due to his defense-contract work. We lived in Annapolis, Columbia and Gambrills; we had two daughters and decided to make Maryland our permanent home. I started going to college at the Anne Arundel Community College as a part-timer when our first daughter was a toddler. After two semesters, I realized I wanted to pursue a Bachelor’s degree.
I attended school, even with a new baby, as a full time student, and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, earning a B.S. degree in Journalism and Public Relations. Later I attended the University of Maryland Baltimore Graduate School, studying Health Policy Science. Working in the health care industry for over 22 years, I helped provide sales, marketing, public relations, customer service and training to the leading providers of long-term care, assisted living and rehabilitation services. Later I worked as a health care consultant and eventually started up my own health care consulting company.
I moved to New England for six years as Vice-President of Marketing for a long-term care company, but happily moved back to the Maryland I love. I lived in Laurel, MD for a brief time, but returned to Annapolis, where I still live today with my current husband, Tom. We have three adult, married daughters and two cats.
I am a founding member of the Annapolis/Anne Arundel County Chapter of the Maryland Writer’s Association and served for two years as Publicity Director. I am also a member of the Annapolis Christian Writers and Holy Family Church Book Club. I have been writing most of my life – but mostly for others – corporations and clients who hired me. I have won awards for written marketing materials, newsletters and ads I developed for health care concerns. In 2007, I finally was given the chance to write for myself… And so a new career began for me.
Suddenly an Angel – My Grandson’s Story, My Family’s Faith is my memoir, which was published in 2008 by PublishAmerica.
